Landscape Design

A design is a visual rendering of the things we discussed while walking your property. This is the second step of the landscape transformation process. A landscape design will show you how landscape concepts bring together all the existing and proposed areas: arboriculture, horticulture and hardscapes. It incorporates form and function along with colors, tones, textures and scale.  It makes focal points come alive. It softens hard looking areas.  It creates outdoor rooms and curb appeal. It incorporates play areas for children or private nooks for adults. It creates transitional areas from sun to shade. It may contain low-maintenance landscapes, native plants, herbs and edible gardens. Many different types of hardscapes may be incorporated within a design, such as fences, stonewalls, patios and walkways. It may be a brief quick sketch or a detailed, hand-drawn blueprint with itemized listings of vegetation and hardscapes.

You choose:

a. Sketch

  • fast, rough and small
  • estimated time would be 1-3 hours
  • may not be to scale
  • can be done while walking around with you during the initial consultation, giving quick verbal ideas. This is called "designing on your feet."

b. Design

  • accurate, detailed
  • gives an itemized list of all plantings, hardscapes and materials used
  • takes longer-usually about 10-20 hours with medium to larger jobs
  • drawn to scale
  • may require 1-4 site visits, consultations, preliminary drawings and detail drawings for estimating time and materials

*Sketch or Design fee varies.

If a Sketch is done by "designing on my feet" during the consultation, no additional fee is applied and the client only pays for the consultation time.

Design fee is per hour. Additional charges may apply if extra site visits and consultations are required. Additional charges may apply for travel time.
